Governors Island

A deeply uncanny place. We went there on a Wednesday in the summer and it felt like we had the island more or less to ourselves. But it’s right next to downtown and there are helicopters buzzing overhead the whole time. My kids especially enjoyed the slide playground at the southern end of the island.
